HI all. Our sincerest apologies but we missed this comment..

We hear you loud and clear. The Street is only 60 feet wide and on busy Saturdays this summer, we had close to 20,000 visitors. There are definitely days when the Street is very crowded!
We work with many, many stakeholders who are all using the public right of way -- businesses, restaurants, cart vendors, street performers, non-profit tablers, people protesting/demonstrating, panhandlers and events and activities -- plus our locals, Vermonters and tourists. It can be very challenging.

==We have permitted our retailers to bring racks of clothes and tents out in front of their stores, although only about 30% have taken advantage of the additional space. Many retailers have staffing challenges (meaning either they cannot afford to hire additional people to staff outdoor displays, or they're getting by with smaller staffs to preserve their margins) .
==We are currently working with our Cart Vendors to raise the standards of our cart vendor program. Our goal is find ways to redesign carts so that coolers can be placed inside the carts versus around the perimeter of carts.
==We do mark the boundaries of the outdoor cafes each year, as mentioned. Because there is a high turnover of staff at our eating/drinking establishments, we are regularly reminding and educating owners and staff to keep cafes within their boundaries. We are working with Burlington Fire about the possibility of funding extra-duty firefighters to be on Church Street during the busy evening hours of high season, to help with compliance. We'll work with the new Fire Chief once he/she is hired.
