Description
I am on the needs assistance garbage pickup list- totally handicapped. I live on the corner of Blount and Edenton Streets in the only structure on the block. My garbage has always been collected on the Blount Street side, on Friday- and my recycling is collected on the Edenton Street front porch also on Friday. Since the computer started routing collectors we miss collections every other weeks- since last summer. My daughter and I have called and written at least 12 times. Now there is two and a half weeks of garbage flowing out of my can on the Blount Street side. Please help me.

Come on Raleigh! Let's fix this for Ms. Haywood!

I've referred this to Mr. Phillip White, Assistant Director of the Solid Waste Services Department. When he's had a chance to talk to his route supervisor I will update this issue.

For real - how does Solid Waste miss this kind of stuff? It is shameful that someone would have to work so hard for services that she's paying for. We live a few blocks away from Ms. Haywood and regularly go through the same grief. Get it together SWS!!!

I have not checked the cans since 9 am but at that time nothing had been done. We could not add this week's garbage because there is no room. This has been the pattern since last summer. We have spoken to the special assistance supervisor and to others at SWS- the last few times we have called we requested a response and explanation of what is being done to correct this- no one ever responds. The problem is that there is no accountability. I cannot stop paying my garbage bill because we all know what will happen- it will stop altogether with no recourse. Any garbage trucks going from the Peace Street site to downtown have to pass right by my garbage cans. How difficult can it be to stop at the corner and see the overflowing can?

I see that this issue is 4 months old with no answer! That is simply unacceptable. By the way, I emailed Mr. White about a different issue three times and left him two voicemails, and he never responded to me. That is a terrible example for someone in charge of City services. He needs to start doing his job or be replaced by someone who can.

Enough -you are correct. While eventually I started getting consistent pickup, they NEVER contacted me, and they changed my collection day from Friday to Thursday without telling me. Consequently more garbage piled up. This department is not responsive and I don't believe there is any customer service. It disappoints me, especially since I continue to have questions about pickup of yard trash and recycling. I have just given up on those topics.

Assistant Solid Waste Services Director White has personally supervised collections at this residence and witnessed the collection of both garbage from the N Blount Street side of the home in the driveway and the recycling from the front porch for the past several weeks. We think we have the situation stabilized now. He will also verify collection again this Friday the regular collection day.
