Part of the timing problem is that cars turning left onto Hackett, from St. James, have a green light at the same time that pedestrians get a walk signal to cross Hackett, giving pedestrians no real chance to cross Hackett without being threatened/intimidated by motorists. The timing makes no sense, except from a car-centric perspective.

Also, cars turn right on red onto St. James without stopping or looking for pedestrians. Totally car-centric and anti-pedestrian engineering.

#6 & Sam Those are excellent points. If the road continued straight ahead and they had a green they could go on their merry way. But at 7 am the drivers aren't thinking "oh, I'm making a left into a cross walk those wobbly walkers have the right of way." And the right on red means go faster people are always sure they can zoom through the crosswalk before the walkers are in the way. Scary. Operating as intended

Hi, This morning we still only had less than 8 seconds to get across a very busy major thorough fare. I do hope that is not as intended. As mentioned, traffic jams up there every weekday morning from 787 to major employers, so drivers are stressed and not inclined to worry about folks in the crosswalk. However it is also a major pedestrian route to schools and employers. Since there is no sidewalk on the South side of Hackett, crossing is the only way to safely get to Academy Rd in one direction and Albany Med, schools and other employers in the other direction. The homeowner at 76 Hackett never shovels so the pedestrian is also dealing with that potential slip & slide if the light turns in their favor. Additionally, the blocks on this part of Hackett are very long, so drivers can really build up speed and there are not alternative places to cross to get to the walking path. Hope we can at least lengthen the walk signal some. Thank you.
