We have dealt with this delicate issue for the past two years. The female occupant of this vehicle is mainly living out of this van and does in fact pay for the metered parking spots on Person Street each day. The vehicle was broken down last week, but has now been repaired and is operational after she was given a seven day notice of towing last week. Our Downtown District Community Squad is once again trying to utilize various outreach programs, mental health resources, and faith based organizations to try and get the owner of this vehicle a permanent location to park her van. In addition, we are exploring some permanent residency options for her, but are meeting some resistance from her and her family members.
The vehicle is currently not in violation and there should be no concerns with the gas can that is affixed to the rear of the van (it is empty and usually contains water). I do ask that the business owners and community members be patient with this particular matter and please allow us to explore our various resources to provide some much needed supplementary care options to the owner of this vehicle.
