Description
What a shameful and embarrassing sight to have on our main business thoroughfare! The furniture that was placed here needs to go. The site needs to be fenced off. What citizens of Newburgh feel safe or compelled to sit here much less walk here? Please remove this eyesore

On the Highpoint bus tour this past Wednesday of the Rupco built beauties, we on the bus were told that it was a sanctioned “park for the homeless.” While cringing, the air conditioned bus riders looked out to see 2 dozen trash surrounded loungers wallowing around. I thought that property was supposed to be an “ art” project. Now it’s a litter box.
A few years back, it was supposed to be a housing project and a food market.
Then, Broadway was planned to allow pot shops ( other communities in Orange County were allowed to zone those away from the main streets.)
The commercial stores on Broadway are not seen as desirable retail locations for new stores. Despite extremely high property taxes! And investment into renovated properties demanded by The City.
Compare beautiful Beacon Main Street to hideous Newburgh Broadway. Why is that? Why don’t tourists want to stroll along Broadway?
The new investment on Liberty Street is amazing. The Rupco and Highpoint projects are designed to serve the people living there and not push anyone out. However, there is clearly something wrong.
It’s past time to see development of some kind on the land now being put to use by homeless squatters. And what happened to the boutique hotel on Broadway? Did the City drive the developers away?
