Description
Dear City of New Britain Officials,
I am writing this letter, brimming with disappointment, to address a continuing and blatant problem in our community. I hold the expectation that the city I call home should, at the very least, maintain a standard of cleanliness and upkeep worthy of its residents. Unfortunately, this expectation appears to be a tall order for the city council in charge of our daily operations.
I reported a vandalized street sign on Allen Street, a graffiti-infested eyesore, back on March 19, 2023. It is now June 10, 2023, nearly three months later, and the sign is still a glaring testament to your team's negligence. One must wonder, are the officials of New Britain so wrapped up in bureaucratic red tape that they can't manage even the simplest tasks such as replacing a defaced street sign?
As a taxpaying citizen, I am wholly dissatisfied with this lack of attention and the slow-moving nature of your city's response system. Our community deserves a municipal government that prioritizes cleanliness and safety, and it's clear from this instance that we are sorely lacking in that department.
This street sign, marred by ugly, incomprehensible scribbles, isn't just a sign - it represents the community's image and value. Every day that it stands defaced, it sends a message to the residents and visitors alike: We don't care enough about our city to maintain it.
I certainly did not move to New Britain to see my hard-earned tax dollars squandered on fruitless endeavors while basic municipal duties fall by the wayside. I'm tired of watching my neighborhood’s aesthetic and sense of safety deteriorate because of avoidable oversights.
I demand immediate action to rectify this situation. It's high time the city council rolls up its sleeves and starts putting our tax dollars to good use. This isn't a complex request, it's a simple plea for a modicum of responsibility and respect for our community.
Remember, it's the small things that make the biggest difference. It's not just about replacing a defaced street sign. It's about demonstrating respect for the city and its residents. So, do your job.

As I ask my 6 year old, “is this a big problem or a small problem”?
