Description

A pedestrian safety hazard exists, created by extreme erosion inside the ROW, along the sidewalk on the west side of Six Forks Rd between Long St. and Newton Rd. This is where the creek flows under Six Forks Rd. Soil is completely eroded away from the sidewalk creating a very steep, open and dangerous ravine that is more than 15' deep. There are no barriers to warn and/or direct pedestrians away from the open ravine in the ROW. There are visable signs, left side of this photo, that erosion is continuing to undercut soil down at the lower level of the ravine which increases the likelihood that there will be a catastrophic failure under the sidewalk if the situation is not addressed. The land west of the ROW is own by the City of Raleigh.
