  I wrote a note awhile ago about the problem that has been created by allowing parking on both sides of Lakeside Avenue. Before Hula. there was no parking on the north side of the street, which was essentially part of Blodgett's. The street is now very busy, and cars coming into the neighborhood emerge from the narrow railroad bridge to a narrow road space that, with the volume of traffic, is just not safe with cars parked on both sides. Parking on the north side also inhibits the view of drivers coming up Lakeside, making it hard to see if anyone is coming out of Hula. I wrote earlier about the need for a stop sign coming out Hula, as we now have cars entering the Lakeside-Central Ave intersection from three ways (and a fourth from the St. Johns Club parking lot). The reality is that as great as the Hula project is, and it is great, we knew our neighborhood would suffer from increased traffic, and appreciate the City making changes that will make it safe for everyone. (BTW, thanks for the crosswalk sign!)

  You are absolutely right James. We bought the place in 2009 when there was no parking on the north side. Things sure have changed and we welcome it. We would also like to note all the hard work that has been done so far and thank parking enforcement for patroling so regularly. I think we are just a few tweaks away from harmony. We are just looking for equity and safety. We also feel that having no parking on the south side of the street and a 20mph sign as you enter the neighborhood under the bridge would take care of a lot of issues. We would love to see a speed table and crosswalk leading to the front door of HULA. We have also commented elsewhere that something should be done at the Lakeside/Central intersection. It's both comical and cringeworthy to watch what happens at that intersection especially when there are events at SJC and HULA on the same evening. We brought up all of these issues at the ACT250 hearing regarding the demolition and construction of a much larger 32 Lakeside. Since that is no longer happening, do we really need 6 extra parking spaces that cause so many issues?

  I am also requesting a sign or line to keep people from parking like this on the other side of my driveway (51/53 Lakeside Avenue). I hate seeing people get towed. Some probably know they are in the wrong, but I'm sure that some don't know the very subjective rules. This truck is in violation by at least 3 feet and it happens constantly.
