The City of Hartford hired Nelson\Nygaard, FHI, and Carl Walker to develop a comprehensive approach to parking management and supply for current and future economic development needs. This study began in April 2014 and is expected to have final recommendations by July 2014.

The Hartford Parking Study will specifically address:

Identification of centers of unmet parking demand now as well as in the future

Management of parking to support increased economic development

How best to incorporate new technology

On-street parking rates, time limits, and regulations

Added or altered paid parking

Where and when new parking garages will be necessary

Changes to land use patterns and zoning

Detailed and fiscally responsible cost
estimates for future parking projects
Complementary transportation issues such as street design and circulation patterns, wayfinding, enforcement, public transportation and ongoing development initiatives will be assessed for their impacts on the parking system. Fiscal and management reviews will ensure that any recommendations are implemented responsibly and sustainably. Your suggestions and critiques are vital to steer this effort.

The plan will recommend a strategic set of multimodal investments that will continue to support economic development downtown. This could include streetscape improvements, measures to encourage alternate ways of travel, and way finding signs.
